Writing to Film

Last Once hiatus, I was getting rather impatient waiting for season 5… So I tried a new type of writing: writing to film.

Basically, I started looking up excerpts of OUAT and writing out what was happening. It took a lot of time, a lot of rewinding the YouTube clip and a LOT of editing.

I haven’t really been able to share them with many people, so I thought I might post one up here and see what you guys think… Here it is:

WARNING! The following piece holds spoilers for Once Upon A Time seasons 4 and 5. Read at your own risk.

… And as the darkness swirled around her, like slimy ropes of black, her face changed, no longer showing signs if pain, but a sort of empty calmness and her lips upturned, ever so slightly, in a smile.

Her family, her friends, were powerless to do anything but stand back and watch, as the hurricane of darkness raged on, flickering with blue light – Hook, standing alone, his heart breaking, Robin, clutching Regina, and David, holding Mary Margaret in his arms.

Suddenly, without warning, the darkness exploded in a flash of that eerie blue light, and was gone, taking Emma with it.

Something clattered to the ground – the dagger of The Dark One, no longer blank as it had been minutes before, but now with a new name emblazoned upon it: Emma Swan.

The five stood there in silence for a moment, staring at the dagger.

“How could she be so stupid?!” Exclaimed Regina, pulling away from Robin.

“Regina!” Yelled David.

“Well, there had to be another way!”

“There wasn’t.” Said Mary Margaret. “That thing was going to kill you – she saved your life!”

“Don’t you think I know that?” Said Regina, guiltly.

Henry, who had rushed out of Mr Gold’s shop when he had heard the explosion, stopped dead next to Mary Margaret and David, staring at the dagger.

“And now she’s the…” He swallowed. “Dark One.”

“Now she’s a problem.” Muttered Regina. “For all of us.”

“She is still good!” Retorted Mary Margaret.

“I hope so!” Replied Regina. “It’s not like she rode off on a unicorn – she got sucked up in a vortex of evil!”

“Where is she?” Asked Robin, slightly confused. “Where’s she gone?”

“Doesn’t bloody well matter.” Said Hook darkly. It was the first time he had spoken since Emma had vanished. He took a few steps towards the dagger.

“Mate, don’t -” Started Robin, walking up to intervene, but Hook grabbed his arm.

“Get out of my way!” He snarled. He wasn’t going to let anything stop him from getting to his love – not darkness, and definitely not some common thief like Robin Hood.

Robin looked down at the dagger for a moment, and then, without another word, retreated.

Hook walked over and picked up the dagger.

“If I can’t find her, I can damn well bring her to me.” He said, holding up the dagger and staring at Emma’s name.

“Dark One?” He took a deep breath and continued.

“With this dagger, I command thee – Return!”

Nothing happened. Hook looked over to Henry – Henry, the one always filled with optimism and hope – for some sort of reassurance, but he just slowly blinked back tears and said nothing.

“Dark One,” Hook repeated, his words now more of a plea. “Appear!”

Mary Margaret buried her head into David’s chest. Regina sighed.

“Put that thing down before you hurt yourself, Guy-liner.” She said irritably, walking over to where he was standing. “I thought you knew the dagger’s rules!”

“With it, I can summon the Dark One from any corner of the world.” He replied, turning to face her.

“Well, there’s your answer.” Said Regina. “She’s not in this world.”

Well… What do ya think? I have to admit, it isn’t my greatest work – writing to film is a little hard, but fun. 🙂

So… that’s all from me for now. I’ll try to post again soon. Please tell me what you think in the comments section below – I’d love to hear from you 🙂
